They are a unique addition to any ear project & the jewelry choices available, with Forward Facing Segment Rings & Clickers, are unlike many other ear piercings! 😍

Though, being completely transparent, these piercings are tricky to heal, & can be even trickier to preform correctly. Be sure to always seek an experienced Piercer for these piercings!

The healing time is long, approximately 1 year. That doesn't mean a year of pain, but they can be problematic & they are tedious.

I love Daith Piercings! They are super fun, incredible, aesthetically pleasing, beautiful ear piercings, that add a new dimension to any ear project! The jewelry options are the icing on the cake!
With that said, these piercings can be tricky to heal, & require some extra TLC. They also 100% do NOT cure any medical condition, no piercing does. Definitely take that into account before taking the plunge on this piercing!

There is also a lot of misinformation about Daith Piercings out there, so let’s break down everything you need to know before getting your Daith pierced!

FUN FACT:

The technical pronunciation is "da-th", rhyming with goth and moth. Many pronounce "daith", like "faith", due the spelling. However you wish to say it works for me!
This piercing was first done by Erik Dakota. He performed this piercing for his client, Theresa, who requested something unique & one-of-a-kind. Afterwards, he asked the client to name it. She was a "good catholic girl" & had been teaching herself Hebrew, so she decided to name it daith after the word daath or da'at (meaning knowledge or intelligence). This piercing being named from a Hebrew word, is where the pronunciation comes from.

Wait, where is it? 

A properly placed Daith Piercing is tucked behind the Tragus & Forward Helix. When pierced, the Segment Ring seems to "magically float" in the center of the ear.
The Daith is pierced in the connective tissue, the little ridge between the bottom of a Forward Helix & the Tragus. It's occasionally confused, by some, with the Rook Piercing, however, Daith's are more so below such & tucked away, right above where a Q-Tip would enter while cleaning your ear. 
This can make them tricky to preform (more so pressure vs pain) & only a Piercer with experience, especially in regards to proper placement, should be offering this piercing. Daith's, if the angle is even slightly off, won’t heal easily. They can also migrate & reject if pierced too shallow, or angled too high. They ideally should sit evenly between the Conch & Tragus, tucked into the ear.

While this effect is part of what gives the Daith Piercing that "WOW factor", it also makes them a huge pain for many to heal. Why? One can’t see what they are cleaning! You just kinda hope you clean away all the crust & debris. It's also hard to see if the piercing is irritated or grumpy.
Many don’t catch complications, until it’s advancing in irritation, because of such. This factor definitely makes a Daith a more advanced heal, then some other ear piercings, for many clients. You have to be more on top of checking things to make sure you are keeping it clean & keeping an eye on the piercing as a whole, while it heals.
Making sure not to sleep on this piercing is also essential. Placing a travel pillow on top of your regular pillow & placing your ear inside the "neck hole" is a game changer/lifesaver! Asking a friend or family member to help & check to make sure things look clean/good, is also a great idea...or even take photos on your phone to check.
I also suggest against wearing earbuds/AirPods or headphones while this is healing. Once it's healed, that's totally fine, & shouldn't be uncomfortable. Perhaps one earbud (in the opposing ear) can be enough to hold you through, until then. 

"I heard these piercings cure migraines"

As a lifetime migraine suffer, I wish I could state there is truth to this. I have both of my Daiths pierced & sadly, ...I still receive migraines.
A rumor started years ago online, stating that Daith Piercings can cure migraines, & it has spiraled out of control ever since.
Unfortunately, this rumor in inaccurate & misleading. NO body piercing could ever potentially cure any medical condition, whatsoever.
The American Migraine Association released a statement stating the Daith Piercing, if anything, is of a placebo effect. There is zero medical evidence that piercing your Daith does anything to cure, nor alleviate, help, or reduce migraines.
There's no major nerve ending I, nor any Piercer, may pierce through, & there’s no magic acupuncture spot either.

Placebo is powerful! In drug trials, people who are given a "fake" pill still often get better because they believe they are receiving "real" medication.

The mind is absolutely a powerful organ & any person who has claimed to be cured by a piercing are likely experiencing a strong placebo effect...& that's okay (& great news for them). 
However, all I, as a Professional Piercer, can offer you is a safe, well performed, beautiful body piercing in the end.

What Jewelry Can I Wear?

This piercing heals the best with either a Circular Barbell (horseshoe), Clicker, or Segment Ring (that varies in diameter, preventing full rotation). I highly suggest piercing it with jewelry that you absolutely love, as it takes approximately 1 year to heal.
As always, I do not suggest ANY piercing to be performed initially with a hoop, including the Daith. 
With that being said, some piercers also insist on piercing these with Curved Barbells. Such jewelry leads to lots of issues. Curves can flip inward toward the ear canal & cause pressure irritations. They also can get stuck flipped in & are very frustrating/tedious to get flipped correctly.
If you like that style, you can swap to a curve, once fully healed. Be mindful that the flipping issue can happen with curves, even once healed. To be fair, you can’t see much of the curve anyways, if pierced in the proper location-the curved barbell will be more so hidden.

As far as Heart-Styled, I suggest healed Daith Piercings only. Attempting to heal with a Heart-Style can be difficult, as the peak "V" can rotate into the piercing, also causing issues.

I also suggest Captive Rings and/or Seam Rings to wait, until fully healed.
